Biography

Damon Thomas is a serving Alderman on the Hobart City Council and has a passion for the potential of Hobart and long term interest in our city's future.
Damon has an outstanding background in local and State government, business and the Tasmanian community. He is a qualified lawyer with an extensive professional background that has encompassed significant public and private sector senior executive, director and statutory roles.
His achievements include appointments as Tasmanian Crown Solicitor, State Ombudsman, and Health Complaints Commissioner and CEO of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Damon is currently head of the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal as well as being the Korean Consul. He has previously been on the Board of the Heart Foundation and the Cancer Council. Damon also works closely with the Australian Retailers Association, staying in touch with the needs of retailers at national and local levels.
As a principal of Thomas Consulting Services, Damon has a particular interest in corporate governance education. He has extensive experience in working with Boards and Executive Management teams to establish practical benchmarks for good corporate governance. His approach focuses on developing effective working relationships that align with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Damon has an established media profile. He is an experienced and highly regarded public speaker and forum facilitator.
